Social C

SocialC is a simple-to use computer interface that is accessed on the SimpleC Companion. There are two main reasons for using SocialC:

  • Enable seniors to participate in social media and engage in other popular computer activities
  • Improve name-face recognition

Social media

The driving force behind SocialC was to facilitate inter-generational communication and enable seniors to stay in touch with their peers. Developments in social media have led to a plethora of different programs and user interfaces.

With SocialC:

  • Children and grandchildren can use their favorite social media to communicate without requiring their parents or grandparents to do the same
  • Computer interaction is simplified, most notably by providing seniors with one interface for different programs such as email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Flickr, or YouTube

Name-face training

The second goal of SocialC was to help seniors recall names and faces of their social circle. Remembering “who is who” can help newcomers adjust to a new environment and keep the knowledge active. Our adaptive training program also tailors to the learning needs of residents in memory care.

Use SocialC to:

  • Communicate with family and friends, for example via email and video chatting
  • Stay in-touch through social media
  • Be informed about upcoming social events in the community
  • Engage in other popular computer activities such as browsing the internet or playing games
  • Reinforce memory of names and faces of neighbors and loved ones
